As something new this year the Port Costa Conservation Society will be sponsoring a month-long art show during May. Over 35 local artists are signed up to display their work in the 100-year old school building "Gallery". The event will kick off with an artist's reception which will be open to the public on Saturday, May 7th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, with entertainment being provided by the Alhambra High School string quartet from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. This will be an opportunity for the artists to meet each other and the public and to talk about their work. Refreshments will be served. The gallery will then be open on weekends in May from noon to 4:00 pm. The show will close on Sunday, May 29th. |
| The show features works by local Crockett potters Kathy Kearns and Pino Pagni. Other Crockett artists who will also have work on display include Dan Robertson, Merv Silverman and Solange Delpouys. Up and coming Port Costa glass artist Kyle Campbell will debut some of his new pieces and fellow Port Costan Betty Bailey will display a few of her whimsical drawings. A group from the Center for Adaptive Learning will have pieces in the show including a display of wearable art by Oriana DeForest. |
| Everyone is excited about the show. It will showcase an eclectic mix of paintings, drawings, photography, glass, pottery and other medium all on display in one room - something for everyone. |

DRAWING FROM LIFE Betty Bailey started drawing while recovering at home in Port Costa from a neck injury. "I started doing family drawings, cartoon-like caricatures from events like bocce ball, people visiting and vacation trips. I like to do friends and groups of people, like docents visiting our studio, and different types of faces." Betty’s drawings have been featured in group shows in the Bay Area, and at Shasta College in Redding. Her ceramic work has been shown at the Oakland Museum.

LOOKING AT THE WORLD Dan Robertson assumed the editorship of the historic Crockett Signal when he took over as publisher of the monthly news and arts magazine in 1987. Since that time, Dan can be seen in and around the Crockett community with notebook and camera, covering politics and town meetings, Chamber of Commerce events, social affairs and breaking news. An art major at UC Berkeley, Dan continues to pursue his love of art in his studio at home. He often paints from snapshot photo images he takes around town and while on vacation, earning a batch of blue ribbons for his canvases at county fairs, and kudos from art and poetry magazines. "It’s a matter of looking at the world," he says.
